The Values of the Market

Whether "globalization" is a useful concept remains open to doubt. Semantically, it is empty when it lacks critical detail: globalization of what? For some the answer is the free market, and globalization has become a lightning rod for praise and blame of laissez-faire. For others, it is culture and communication, and globalization means either homogeneity or new forms of cosmopolitanism, hybrid identities, and diaspora sensibilities.
