WASHINGTON, DC (January 16, 2007) — The New America Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Steve Burd as a Senior Research Fellow in its Education Policy Program. Burd, a leading journalist with The Chronicle for Higher Education, will help shape New America’s work on higher education policy, particularly the nexus between post-secondary education and high school policy issues and on student financial aid issues, including student loans.
“Steve Burd is among the most respected and knowledgeable journalists in the country on student financial aid issues, particularly student loans. His hiring is a coup for New America’s Education Policy Program,” said Director Michael Dannenberg.
Prior to joining New America, Burd was a Senior Writer with The Chronicle of Higher Education, where he focused heavily on federal higher education policy and the inner-workings of student loan and financial aid programs. His 15 year career at The Chronicle is marked by numerous notable news scoops, as well as a proclivity to drive national coverage in various education-related fields.
At New America, Burd will research and write policy papers, op-eds, and magazine articles on higher education policy, as well as maintain a presence on New America’s news breaking, policy driving blog, Higher Ed Watch. Burd and Education Policy Program Director Michael Dannenberg, a former Senior Education Counsel to Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA), will provide print and broadcast media with regular commentary on higher education issues.
The New America Foundation is a leading voice on education issues, focusing its higher education work on developing and supporting policies that make higher education more accessible, affordable, and rewarding for all.
