Tomás Jiménez
Tomás Jiménez is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, San Diego. His research and teaching focus on immigration, assimilation, social mobility, and identity. In 2005, he was the American Sociological Association Congressional Fellow in the office of Rep. Michael Honda (D-CA), where he served as a legislative aide for immigration, veterans’ affairs, housing, and election reform. Dr. Jiménez’s writing has appeared in numerous scholarly journals, and he has contributed editorials to the Los Angeles Times and The San Diego Union-Tribune. He holds a B.S. in sociology from Santa Clara University and A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from Harvard University.
As a California-based Fellow at the New American Foundation, Dr. Jiménez will write about the role of government in immigrant assimilation.
