Nicholas Thompson is a senior editor at The New Yorker, a contributing editor at Bloomberg Television and CNN International, and the author of The Hawk and the Dove: Paul Nitze, George Kennan, and the History of the Cold War, which Henry Holt published in September 2009.

Prior to The New Yorker, Mr. Thompson was a senior editor at Wired Magazine and Legal Affairs. Before that, he was an editor at the Washington Monthly. He has written about politics, technology, and the law for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, Slate, Foreign Policy, The New Republic, The New York Observer, and many other publications. He is a panelists on CNN Connects with Becky Anderson and he has also appeared as a commentator on Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, ABC's Live with Regis and Kelly and World News Tonight, CBS's Early Show and Evening News, NBC’s Today Show, and National Public Radio.

As a Schwartz Fellow at the New America Foundation in 2002-03, Mr. Thompson wrote about the influence of open-source software as well as the ways that information technology was changing West Africa.  He is a member of the Young Leaders Council on National Committee on American Foreign Policy and a Whitehead Fellow at the Foreign Policy Association. He is also a co-founder of a digital magazine called The Atavist, which, according to The New York Times, publishes “can’t-look-away pieces of multimedia journalism.”
