Michael Shtender-Auerbach
Co-Director, Law and Globalization Initiative
Michael Shtender-Auerbach is co-director of New America’s Law and Globalization Initiative. He is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Social Risks LLC. He holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from Columbia University and has studied at Cyprus College, Hebrew University, and the New School for Social Research.
A leading figure in high technology, Mr. Auerbach founded several companies and worked for blue chip new media companies. As Executive Producer of Pseudo Programs, Mr. Auerbach pioneered the use of online media for the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. A camera from the convention floor was inducted into the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. He won both Webby and Yell Awards for his work at Cable & Wireless. His work is standard for online media and has been exhibited at New Museum in New York and ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art in Germany.
As a political advisor, Mr. Auerbach works both on United States domestic politics and foreign policy. Mr. Auerbach sits on the Board of the American Council for Africa, was Academic Coordinator of the International Institute for Mediation and Conflict Resolution, and consults for various NGO’s on issues surrounding conflict resolution and transformation. Mr. Auerbach was one of the principal organizers of the Security and Peace Initiative annual conference, a joint initiative of The Century Foundation and the Center for American Progress. He went on to become the Associate Director of the Prospects of Peace Initiative at The Century Foundation. His work has been published in the International Herald Tribune, Financial Times, Mother Jones, Tom Paine, The Jewish Daily Forward, San Francisco Chronicle, and the Los Angeles Times.
