As a Policy Analyst for the Asset Building Program, David Newville researches and analyzes savings and ownership policies that promote economic security and advancement for low- and middle-income families. He specifically focuses on the topics of Children's Savings Accounts, connecting tax refunds to the savings process, consumer debt and homeownership.
Prior to joining to New America, Mr. Newville worked on early care and education policy issues for Illinois Action for Children. In that capacity, he researched and wrote an extensive report on health insurance issues for child care providers and other low-wage workers. He also was a producer at WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio, and before that worked as a community organizer in Chicago with ACORN, focusing on health care and housing issues. While in graduate school, Mr. Newville wrote a research paper on the effectiveness of Individual Development Account (IDA) programs and worked with a nonprofit in Detroit that provides free tax preparation to the poor. He is a graduate of Grinnell College and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
