Please join the New America Foundation’s National Security Studies Program for an invitation-only, off-the-record conversation with Rashad Hussain, the United States’ representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The United States’ cooperation with the OIC regarding efforts to counter religious intolerance has generated both praise and criticism. That cooperation culminated in a December 19, 2011 U.N. General Assembly resolution condemning religious persecution that dropped traditional language opposing “defamation” of religion, a move hailed by human rights activists as advancing free speech. Critics of U.S. cooperation with the OIC, however, have expressed concern that the collaboration focuses on countering Islamophobia in the West rather than addressing continuing persecution of religious minorities in OIC member states. Please join us for what is sure to be a stimulating conversation.
A light breakfast will be served.
