CA EVENT: California Working Families Policy Summit 2009
New America in California, California Asset Building
Please join us on January 13, 2009, for the sixth California Working Families Policy Summit, hosted by the California Center for Research on Women and Families for a stimulating day of discussion and debate about the needs and aspirations of California's working families.
During these times of economic and budgetary crisis, our political leaders are wrestling with pivotal choices that will affect the day-to-day lives and futures of our state's working families. Will the safety net be slashed? Will we retreat from programs that help the working poor protect and build assets? Will employees be asked to sacrifice benefits and workplace accommodations that help them support their families and balance their personal and professional lives? Or . . . can we work together to envision and invest in a promising future for California's working families - and can we make the difficult decisions that will move us forward?
Timed to coincide with the start of the legislative session, the California Working Families Policy Summit is a forum for leaders from the Legislature, state and local government, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and local communities. Many of the state's top advocates for working families will put forth priority proposals. Our issues for 2009 include the state budget, child care, after-school programs, preschool, health care, mental health, welfare, asset building, housing, food stamps, foster care and paid sick days.
We are honored to host President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg as our Summit Luncheon keynote speaker. (Speaker Karen Bass is also invited.)
