Dr. Werner Hoyer, a Member of the German Bundestag and Vice Chairman of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) Caucus, argued in a recently published piece that the West is losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the Islamic world. Because it is damaging our fundamental interests of preserving peace, prosperity, and our way of life based on freedom, tolerance and reason, Dr. Hoyer contends that this downward slope warrants an internal dialogue to accompany the trans-Atlantic dialogue. In his previous capacities, Dr. Hoyer was Minister of State in the German Foreign Office from 1994 to 1998. From 1993 to 1994, he was General Secretary of the Liberal Democrats Party (FDP). He was also the FDP Chief whip for four years from 1989 to 1993 and party spokesman on security affairs in the Bundestag from 1990 to 1994. Dr. Hoyer is a Major in the German Air Force Reserve (GAF). He is Vice-President of the Deutsche Atlantische Gesellschaft and a lecturer in international economic relations at the University of Cologne.Come hear distinguished speaker Dr. Werner Hoyer discuss the West’s downward trends and what we can do to remedy it, followed by a question and answer session moderated by Steve Clemons.
