HEALTH REFORM: Born on the ... August Recess?

Quick note -- My colleague, Paul Testa, just posted about Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus's goal of having health reform on President Obama's desk by July 4. Well, House Energy and Commerce Chairman, Henry Waxman (whose 59-member committee can move, shall we say, deliberately), wants to move quickly, but doesn't expect to move quite that quickly. He just told an American Medical Association conference here in DC that he hopes the House will act by the August recess. He also predicted one unified bill from the three relevant House committees (Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Labor). That's still an ambitious timetable for ambitious legislation, and even if the House and Senate need to conference their different bills, it's plenty of time to get health reform done this year. We'll post later today on some other things Waxman had to say...
