That borrower and his family are in a terrible situation. His loan balance is probably going up up up, and I can't imagine what kind of help the US Treasury can offer this person or the thousands of other borrowers who find themselves in financial trouble because of private student loans made by predatory lenders like Sallie Mae. Does Treasury have the will or even any interest in helping distressed student loan borrowers? Is it up to our new President and the legislative branch to fix this mess? And if it is, what can be done? Is there a solution?
Thank you New America Foundation for trying to call attention to this horrific situation. Hopefully our policymakers are listening. They are "our" policymakers, right, and not the lobbyist's?
