The May 19 Massacre

May 19, 2009 - 10:33pm

Your blogger would have called it for "No" at 8:01 p.m., but he was out reporting. It's a special election wipeout. Propositions 1A through 1E --  backed by Governor Schwarzenegger, Democratic legislative leaders and most of the state's elite -- all lost badly. Only 1B appears to be receiving as much as 40 percent support in early returns. The rest are in the mid to upper 30s. (UPDATE MONDAY MORNING: all 5 measures are now well under 40 percent).

What's next? Chaos. Fighting. And a discussion of how exactly a bankrupt state declares bankruptcy.

Can I get a HELL NO!?

Finally we can stop the charade. The state legislature got a huge NO!! People in California continue to vote Democratic and yet vote conservative on propositions. The Dems have done a great sell job when it comes to candidate voting. Also it shows the inherent "gimmie, gimmie something for nothing" attitude by voters. The voters want every service known to man and yet don't want to pay a dime for it. Just ask a voter "Would you support more taxes for school?" The first thing out of their mouths is "What about the lottery money?". The black helicopters come out and people believe an urban legend someone is putting the lottery money in their pockets. I think the schools get enough money, however not at the fault of the lottery. The only way people will understand what they fully believe in is allowing them to have the government they voted for. If it means more budget cuts, layoffs, less services, closed offices, more waiting in line, etc. I am fine with it. It might bounce back the other way. If people hate the government they see they might just for tax increases. All this borrowing over the years had to stop. The bill came due and now the cuts should be made. Let Californians get a taste of budget cuts. They might like it or not like it. But I am tired of tax increases and borrowing. The bodies will hit the floor.
