Adams Recall Goes Postal

August 9, 2009 - 12:53pm

The most closely watched recall effort in California -- the conservative bid to take out Republican Assemblyman Anthony Adams because of his February vote for temporary tax increases -- may be losing steam. Unable to get enough signatures on the streets, recall supporters say they are beginning a mail campaign to qualify a measure.

Failure to qualify the recall would be an enormous defeat for conservatives who have sought to punish any Republican member who votes for any sort of tax increase, no matter the state's budget and cash difficulties. For Adams, pushing back the recall also could give his career a considerable boost.
