Fire and Prop 11

October 28, 2008 - 6:38pm

This is the new ad in favor of Prop 11, the California initiative to strip state legislators of the power to draw their own disricts. A citizens' commission would do the job instead.

It stars a firefighter. This is typical--cops, firefighters and teachers have been staples of initiative ads in California. Firefighters are among the most popular public servants. Often, firefighters in ads are there on behalf of unions that have endorsed a measure. That's not the case here, however.

really bad

Proposition 11 is likely to go down. Just read it. Not sure who drafted this, but it reads like a license to unleash bureaucracy galore.
Many millions will go down the drain.

Their TV ads are positively HORRIBLE. A viewer has no clue what they are talking about and their scripts DO NOT relate to the ballot title or summary.

Another embarrassment on tap for the guv.

What is wrong with him?

Prop 11: Why the 23rd Cong. District map is never shown

Why was Prop 11 edited? Check all the crossed-out sentences on page 137 of your General Election information guide. Having lived in the Northern California when SF Congressman Phil Burton's machine gerrymandered the Bay Area, southern Californians really can't see what has happened unless you visit the new 23rd Congressional district map. Just Google "Ribbon of Shame" for the map that shows Arroyo Grande (on Hwy 101 south of Pismo Beach) removed entirely and tossed it over into the Bakersfield congressional district. Even the San Luis Obispo County Tribune has NEVER printed this new map!
I'd rather wait and vote for a better un-edited version of redistricting.
