Same Sex Marriage Advocates May Boycott Obama Inauguration

December 19, 2008 - 8:16am

Many same-sex marriage advocates in California are furious at President-Elect Obama for giving the Rev. Rick Warren, who was a strong advocate of the Prop 8 ban on gay marriages, a role in his inauguration. One prominent member of the No on Prop 8 campaign team has declined his invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony as a result.

Boycotting the inaugural

This is an interesting and possibly unprecedented gesture, akin to that tree dropping in the forest which no one hears. Did it drop? If you refuse to show up at the largest assemblage of Americans in history, will anyone notice, or care? How do we really know you weren't there? Protestors will be reduced to posting videos of themselves in their cozy kitchens, watching the ceremony on their Sonys, maybe smiling wanly and holding up little signs saying "Obama Unfair."

boycott the inaugural

I was upset when I first heard Obama was parking his bus on me.
Then, I went to see MILK this weekend. Now, more then ever, I say boycott!
"Enough," As Obama said. "ENOUGH!"

I lived in Miami while Anita reared her ugly, hateful head. I moved to California in 1978, only to have Riggs raise his head. Enough! Enough! 33 years later, enough! Stop with these bigoted people destroying my life.
I will not have someone tell me that my Husband of 24 years and I are wrong.
I did not leave him on his sick bed, Mr. Gingrich. I did not leave him while he was in the hospital, Mr. McCain. I stayed by his side "in sickness and in health, Till Death do us part." Enough of your hate, Farwell! Enough of your hypocrisy, Larry Craig! Enough of your hate, Rev. Hagart! He who lives without sin may cast the first stone! Enough, Obama, enough!
