Sharing, Printing & E-Mailing Our Content
Throughout NewAmerica.net, links for printing, e-mailing and sharing pages can be found in the light blue box that appears near the top of most articles, blog posts, policy papers and event pages.
The icons in the first row, for emailing an item to a friend (
) and for printing that page in a printer-friendly format (
), are hopefully self-explanatory.
The second row of icons, however, are for services that may not be familiar to all of our readers. These websites offer various ways of bookmarking, sharing and recommending pages that you find valuable on NewAmerica.net. All the services are free, but some form of user registration is required to use each of them.
Short descriptions of each service are included below, along with information on how to use them and links you can follow to register and find out more:
del.icio.us
At its most basic level, del.icio.us allows users to save their bookmarks online.
Del.icio.us also gives users the ability to "tag" their bookmarks with descriptive category names. For example, someone who has bookmarked multiple Web pages that deal with health care reform could tag those links with any terms they want, like "health," "HMOs," "insurance," etc.
As members of a "social bookmarking" community, del.icio.us sers can also see how many other people have bookmarked the same pages, and they can look at those users' bookmark collections to find other interesting online content.
To register, go to: http://del.icio.us/register. For more information about Del.icio.us, go to http://del.icio.us/about.
Digg
On Digg, users share interesting online content by submitting links to the site. At that point, the Digg audience can vote on whether or not they think it is interesting. Articles with lots of votes, or "diggs," rise up higher on the site's main page and topical subsection pages.
Another form of social sharing, this site also lets users categorize the content they are submitting to Digg and label it with descriptions of up to 350 characters. Digg users can also submit comments on each content item submitted to the site.

Reddit allows users to submit news articles and other online content to the site. Users also give articles a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Reddit then uses those votes to build a user profile and to find articles to recommend to you. Users can also submit comments on items posted to the site.

Ma.gnolia
Much like del.icio.us, Ma.gnolia is a "social bookmarking service" that allows users to save, tag and share their bookmarks online. It also offers "page-saving" for your bookmarks, and discussion groups to help you find other bookmarks for topics of interest.

Newsvine
Newsvine allows users to submit articles and other news, as well as post their own pieces on the site. All these items, along with AP newswire stories and other mainstream media content that Newsvine publishes itself, are then sorted and ranked based on "a multitude of factors including freshness, popularity, and reputation" of the author.
