Program Associate, Nuclear Strategy and Nonproliferation Initiative
The Nuclear Strategy and Nonproliferation Initiative seeks to reduce the role of nuclear weapons in international security and places a renewed emphasis on building international institutions to stop the spread of nuclear weapons through research, writing, and innovative programmatic efforts. Dr. Jeffrey Lewis, who maintains a leading arms control blog, ArmsControlWonk.com, directs the Initiative. The Initiative has an immediate opening for the position of program associate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct investigative research into policy issues related to nuclear weapons.
- Provide Initiative staff with rapid-response analysis and polished argument for a competitive messaging environment.
- Write talking points, blog entries, and op-eds.
- Provide administrative support to Dr. Lewis, including managing his calendar, coordinating program events, and arranging travel.
- Provide programmatic support generally to the American Strategy Program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Proven analytic and research skills in a fast-paced team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately and concisely summarize complex information to multiple audiences.
- Knowledge of and/or experience in nuclear weapons policy.
- Excellent writing and editing skills and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience with on-line research, publishing, and project management tools.
- A bachelor's degree in any of the humanities, social sciences, or hard sciences is required.
